Litematica and Servux
Litematica works alone in single player. On a multiplayer server, some of its best features need a small companion mod installed on the server, called Servux. This page lists what it enables, how to tell if you have it, and the messages Litematica shows when it does not.
Security note: in July 2026 a flaw was reported in how older Litematica and Servux builds handled files sent from a server. If you run a server with Servux, use a fixed build; the list is on Litematica vulnerability.
- Ask the server owner to install Servux on the server. It is a Fabric mod that is only needed server-side.
- Match the Servux build to the server’s Minecraft version.
- On your client, keep Litematica and MaLiLib as usual. You do not install Servux on the client.
- In Litematica’s Generic configs, check pasteUsingServux and entityDataSync.
- Paste in a placement that is not too large, and watch for the upload message.
What Servux adds to Litematica
| Feature | Setting | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Paste directly to the server | pasteUsingServux (default on) | Servux on the server, with entity data sync enabled there |
| Entity data from the server | entityDataSync (default off) | Servux. If it is not available, entityDataSyncBackup uses the vanilla NBT query, which needs operator permission |
| Block info overlay on the server | blockInfoOverlayEnabled | The overlay note says it needs entity data sync via Servux on servers |
| Full-rotation Easy Place | easyPlaceProtocolVersion | Version 3 works only in single player or with Servux |
These names and defaults come from the 1.21.4 Litematica configuration. Other versions can differ, so open the config screen in your own game to confirm.
Pasting with Servux
With the setting on and a Servux server, the mod prints that the placement is being uploaded to Servux for pasting. The paste then runs on the server instead of through a stream of commands, which is why it is faster. It can also restore entity data from the file, which the command method cannot. Paste is still a build-permission feature, so check the server’s rules and your permissions. See Litematica paste schematic for the modes and the single-player case.
Messages you may see
- “Schematic transmission to Servux not available. Connect to a Servux server”. The server does not offer Servux.
- “Schematic transmit to Servux has failed. Check that the litematic file is readable”. The file could not be read or sent. Try loading it from the Schematic Manager first; see Schematic Manager.
- “The placement is too large to be safely transmitted to Servux”. Split it before pasting.
If the server will not install it
Many servers will not. Then Litematica uses the command route for paste, which needs the permissions described in Litematica on a server, and Easy Place uses slabs-only fixes, or version 2 on a Carpet server; see Easy Place. A server that forbids schematic mods may also forbid Servux features, so read its rules before you ask. To load a file in the first place, use loading a schematic on a server.
FAQ
What is Servux?
A server-side Fabric mod from the Litematica author’s family of mods. It gives some client-side mods extra data when you play on that server. Its Modrinth page says it is never needed on clients or in single player, apart from a player who hosts a LAN game.
What does Litematica use Servux for?
Four things appear in the mod’s own config text: pasting a schematic directly to the server, entity data sync, the block info overlay, and Easy Place protocol version 3. Without Servux, paste goes through commands and Easy Place falls back to slabs-only unless the server has Carpet.
What does pasteUsingServux do?
It is on by default. The mod’s own text says it pastes a schematic directly to the server, that this is much faster than the command method, and that it supports restoring entity NBT data. It also notes that it requires entityDataSync to be enabled through Servux on the server.
I see “Schematic transmission to Servux not available.” What now?
You are not connected to a server that has Servux, or the server is not exposing it to you. In single player, paste works without Servux. On a server, ask an admin whether Servux is installed and which features are on.
The mod says the placement is too large for Servux. What do I do?
Split the schematic and paste it in parts. The message says to consider splitting it up before pasting. Large builds can be cut into regions or into separate placements.
