Litematica is a client-side Minecraft mod that shows a schematic as a see-through hologram in your world so you can build from it in survival. It is a Fabric mod with a required library, MaLiLib, and it has no schematics of its own. Facts below are from the project's Modrinth page and jars as read on 2026-10-05.
What you get
- Ghost-block rendering of a loaded schematic, with layer modes to show one level at a time.
- Schematic Verifier, which marks missing and wrong blocks, and a Material List.
- Area selection and saving a part of your world as a schematic.
- Placement tools: move, rotate, mirror, and a configuration menu per placement.
- Default hotkeys from the project page:
Mmain menu,M + Cconfig,M + Rall rendering on or off,M + Gschematic ghost blocks only,M + Pplacements,M + VVerifier, numpad minus for the placement menu. Full list on hotkeys.
There is no built-in auto-builder. The project page says a printer is left to extension mods (it names two). If you want that, see Litematica printer. On a server, think before using Easy Place: it always clicks the target position's air block, and the project page warns that anti-cheat can reject it or ban you.
Which loader
| Loader | What the project page says |
|---|---|
| Fabric | The main target from Minecraft 1.14 on. Current builds exist up to 26.3; see the version table. |
| Forge | Original Forge build only for 1.12.2 (plus 1.16.5 development builds). Later versions: third-party ports such as Forgematica. |
| NeoForge | Only through a port. See Forge and NeoForge. |
| LiteLoader, Rift | Historic: Minecraft 1.12.x and 1.13.x. |
The jar's metadata says environment: client and a LGPL licence. MaLiLib is a separate download, and its metadata additionally asks for Fabric API modules, so a working install is three jars: Fabric API, MaLiLib and Litematica.
Where to download it
Use the Litematica project on Modrinth. Its jars also link to a CurseForge page as their homepage. As of 2026-10-05 Modrinth showed about 26.1 million downloads for Litematica and 36.7 million for MaLiLib. Pick the file by game version, not by the highest number: the version numbers of the mod are different on every Minecraft version. The mapping is on Litematica download by version, with detail for 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.4 and 1.21.5.
A repost on another site is not the project page. Check the file name against the table, and read Litematica vulnerability and is a .litematic file safe before loading anything from an unknown source.
Shaders and Optifine
The project page says Litematica's rendering does not currently work properly with shaders, even with Iris, from Minecraft 1.21.3 up. Turn shaders off while you use the hologram. It also recommends Sodium and Iris over Optifine and lists the Optifine options that break rendering (Render Regions, Fast Render).
What the mod does not do
Litematica loads files; it does not write a build for you. The usual sources are your own selections, downloaded files, or a generator. This site's schematic generator writes a plain .litematic (format v6, data version 4189, Java 1.21.4) plus a material list, and the hologram is the same one you get from any other file. Install steps for the version it targets: how to install Litematica.
FAQ
What does the Litematica mod do?
It is a client-side schematic mod. It draws a schematic as a hologram of ghost blocks in your world, shows what is missing or wrong, builds a material list, and lets you select areas, save them as schematics, and move or rotate placements. It does not create builds from text or images by itself.
Is Litematica free and safe?
It is free and open source (LGPL-3.0 on Modrinth, source on GitHub). Take it only from the Modrinth or CurseForge project pages. The maintainer fixed a path-traversal flaw affecting 1.21+ builds in July 2026, so run the newest build for your version.
Does it work on Forge or NeoForge?
Not the original. Modrinth says its Forge build is only for 1.12.2, and later versions rely on third-party ports such as Forgematica. Fabric is where the mod is maintained for current Minecraft.
Does Litematica work on servers?
It runs on your client, so a vanilla server does not need it and does not see it. Easy Place is the risk: Modrinth warns it can get you banned on servers whose anti-cheat treats the clicks as cheating.
Does the mod include a schematic library?
No. You bring a .litematic file. Download one, export one from your world, or generate one here.
