How to load a .litematic file in Litematica

A .litematic is not a world save. Litematica reads it from your schematics folder and projects a hologram you build in survival, with a material list in the mod.

Install Litematica and MaLiLib

The mod is client-side on Fabric and requires the MaLiLib library (stated on the Litematica readme). Walkthrough: install Litematica. Generate a file on the Litematica generator or free schematic page when the mod menu opens with M.

Load steps

  1. Install Fabric, MaLiLib, and Litematica on Java Edition (see install guide below).
  2. Create a schematics folder in the instance you launch if it is missing.
  3. Download a .litematic from the generator. Keep the .litematic extension.
  4. Copy the file into that instance’s schematics directory.
  5. In-game: M → Load Schematics → pick the file → Load schematic.
  6. Place the hologram with the schematic tool, then adjust via Schematic Placements if needed.
  7. Open Material List in the mod and gather blocks to match the ghost.

Official path: put the file in .minecraft/schematics/, then M → Load Schematics (Litematica wiki FAQ). Default main menu key is M; non-QWERTY layouts may differ.

Launchers isolate instances. Use schematics inside the profile you play — not a different global .minecraft tree.

After load, place the hologram, then open Material List in the mod. Counts should match the CSV on this site. Placement moves: move and rotate. Layer-by-layer: layer mode.

Troubleshooting

Empty list or failed load: Litematica not working. Creative paste instead: download .schem and see WorldEdit schematic.

Where do I put a .litematic file?

In the schematics folder of the instance you launch: Windows %appdata%\.minecraft\schematics, macOS ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/schematics, Linux ~/.minecraft/schematics. CurseForge, Modrinth App, and Prism use the instance folder, not the global .minecraft.

How do I load a litematic on Mac?

Use the same schematics path under ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/ for the vanilla launcher, or the instance folder for Modrinth or Prism. Press M, then Load Schematics.

Where is the folder in CurseForge or Modrinth?

Open the instance → profile folder → schematics. The file must live in the instance you click Play on.

Why is the schematic list empty?

Wrong folder, wrong instance, or a browser-added .txt extension (oak-house.litematic.txt). Fix the name and reload the list.
