Litematica Schematic Manager
The Schematic Manager is where Litematica shows what is inside a .litematic file and lets you rename it, change its author, set a preview picture, export it in another format, or copy, rename, and delete the file. It is the closest thing the mod has to a file viewer.
- Press M to open the Litematica menu.
- Click Schematic Manager in the menu row at the top.
- Pick a .litematic from the list to see its info panel.
- Use Edit (rename, change author, or set the preview), Export as, or File to change it.
- Click the button for the operation you picked to run it.
What the info panel tells you
These are the fields the mod displays for a selected schematic. They are worth checking before you place a download, especially one from a site you do not know.
| Field | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Name, Description, Schematic by | Metadata inside the file. Anyone can write anything here, so it proves nothing about origin |
| Enclosing size | Width, height, and depth. Compare it with the space you have |
| Regions | How many sub-regions the file has. Placements can be changed per region |
| Total blocks / Total volume | Non-air blocks against the bounding volume. A big gap means a lot of air |
| Litematic Version and Minecraft [Schema] | The file format version and the game version it was saved for. The Minecraft line is shown in red when the file is newer than your game |
| Created, Modified | Timestamps the saving tool wrote |
A file from this generator shows Litematic Version 6 and a Minecraft 1.21.4 data version. Files saved by Litematica on a newer game will show a newer schema number.
Change a file
- Edit: Rename Schematic, Change Author, and Set Preview. These change the metadata inside the file. Their hover text notes that the action also upgrades the litematic to the current version of Minecraft.
- Export as: Schematic (Schematica format), V6 (1.20.4) Litematic, or Vanilla Structure. Use V6 when you need a copy that an older Litematica can read.
- File: Copy, Rename, or Delete the file on disk. Hold Shift to overwrite an existing destination for copy and rename. Delete removes the file, so copy it first.
The error “Only Litematica schematics can be edited” appears when you try to edit another format. Convert a .schem first; see .schem to .litematic and .litematic vs .schem.
Where it fits in the workflow
Open the Manager before loading, to check size and version. Load the file with Load Schematics, then read the material list to see what you need. Use the Schematic Verifier to check the build when you are done. If a loaded schematic is not visible, the cause is usually on schematic not showing.
FAQ
Where is the Litematica Schematic Manager?
Press M for the main menu and use the Schematic Manager button. The Load Schematic screen uses the same file list. Only .litematic files can be edited there. Other formats are listed but cannot be edited.
How do I see how many blocks a schematic has before I load it?
Select it in the list. The info panel shows the name, the author, the enclosing size, the number of regions, the total blocks, the total volume, and the Litematic version, plus the Minecraft version it was saved for.
How do I change a schematic’s preview image?
Choose Set Preview in the Edit list and click the button, then take a screenshot with the normal screenshot key. The mod reports that the preview image was set. Right-click the button to cancel a pending preview.
Can the Manager turn a .litematic into a vanilla structure or a Schematica file?
Yes. The Export as list offers Schematic (a Schematica file), V6 (1.20.4) Litematic, and Vanilla Structure. The V6 option writes a downgraded copy in the 1.20.4 format.
What does the Schematic Edit button do to the file?
It runs the chosen edit: Rename Schematic, Change Author, or Set Preview. The hover text also says it upgrades the litematic to the current version of Minecraft, so keep a copy if you need the original.
