How many blocks does a Minecraft schematic need?

A schematic is only useful in survival if you can gather what it needs. We ran the real generator for all 13 build shapes at the free size (20 blocks on a side) and the Pro size (48) and converted the block totals into stacks of 64 and 27-slot shulker boxes. The smallest build is 416 blocks; the largest is 104,796.

How to read the numbers

Blocks is every non-air cell the generator placed, the same figure Litematica shows as total blocks. Stacks divides by 64 and rounds up, which is right for building blocks but too small for items that stack to 16 (signs, buckets) or do not stack. The biggest single material shows where most of the gathering goes: the free castle is 2,211 stone bricks out of 2,762. Water counts as a block here, so the fountain’s biggest entry is water (198), which you place with buckets, not by the stack.

Cells and blocks are different: the free box has 8,000 cells and the free castle fills 2,762; the Pro box has 110,592 cells. If the number is bigger than you want to gather, ask for a smaller footprint in the prompt; sizing words are covered on schematic size limits and prompt wording on prompt tips.

From a count to a shopping list

The materials.csv in every download breaks the total down by block state; see Litematica material list. Placing from the hologram is covered on easy place. Pro only raises the size ceiling and the daily number of generates, so check the table above before you decide a 48-block build is something you want to hand-place; the Pro price is one-time.

How this was measured

On 2026-10-04 we ran the same compile step as the generate button with the prompt 20x20x20 oak <shape> or 48x48x48 oak <shape> and read the block total and the material list from the resulting grid. Stack and shulker figures are arithmetic on those totals (64 per stack, 27 stacks per box), not separate measurements. We also ran all 13 palettes on all 13 shapes at 20 blocks: the totals were identical, only the block names change. The site’s tests re-run the generator and fail if this table stops matching it. These are the default settings for each shape; a prompt that asks for a different footprint produces a different count.

FAQ

How many blocks is the free 20-block house?

2,110 blocks, which is 33 stacks of 64 and 2 shulker boxes. 1,714 of them are oak planks.

How many blocks is the biggest build?

The 48-block wall: 104,796 blocks, 1,638 stacks, 61 shulker boxes. It is one solid slab, so it is the extreme case. A 48-block castle is 15,570 blocks.

Does the block count include air?

No. Air is not a block you gather. A 20 × 20 × 20 box has 8,000 cells, but the house fills 2,110 of them.

Where do I get the per-block list for my own prompt?

Every generate downloads a materials.csv next to the .litematic and .schem. The counts there are the same numbers as this page for the same prompt.
