Can you use Litematica on a Minecraft Realm?

Short answer: yes, with limits. Litematica is a client mod, so it works on any world your modded client can join, and a Realm is one of those. What you do not get on a Realm is anything that has to run on the server: WorldEdit, //paste, or a hologram your friends can see.

  1. Install Fabric, MaLiLib and Litematica for Java 1.21.4 on the launcher profile you use to join the Realm.
  2. Put the downloaded .litematic in .minecraft/schematics and open Litematica with M.
  3. Load the schematic and place the hologram next to where you will build.
  4. Open the material list, gather the blocks, and place them by hand.
  5. Do not run //schem or //paste. A Realm does not give you WorldEdit.

What works on a Realm

  • The hologram, because it is drawn by your own client.
  • The material list, which counts the blocks in the file you loaded.
  • Placing blocks yourself against the hologram, from items you have gathered.
  • Layer view, to show one floor of a tall build at a time.

What does not work on a Realm

  • //schem load, //paste and every other WorldEdit command: there is no plugin to answer them.
  • A shared hologram. Other players see terrain and what you have really placed.
  • Bulk placing without effort. Every block is one you put there.

If you want the file pasted instead of hand-placed, copy the world or the build to a single-player world where you can run WorldEdit; that route is on importing a .schem with WorldEdit. Your hologram on any server you do not run, including friends’ servers, is covered on Litematica on a server.

Which file to download for a Realm

Take the .litematic. The generator gives you both formats from one build, but only the .litematic is useful here; the .schem is for WorldEdit. What the two are is on litematic vs schem. A generated file is small. We measured every shape at 0.4 to 2.1 KB, so you can keep a whole folder of them; see how big a .litematic file is.

Gathering is the real cost on a Realm, since you place everything by hand. Before you pick a size, look at how many blocks each build needs: the free 20-block house is 2,110 blocks. Free builds are 20 blocks on a side and one per day; larger builds are a one-time Pro unlock.

Version trouble on a Realm

A Realm normally runs the current release, and a mod build for an older version will not start on a newer game. If Litematica does not appear in the game after you launch, or the load button shows nothing, the usual cause is a version mismatch or a missing MaLiLib. Those cases are on Litematica not working, MaLiLib missing and how to check your Litematica version.

We tested these files by parsing them as NBT (Litematica format version 6, data version 4189). We did not join a live Realm from this site, so the Realm-specific statements above follow from Litematica being a client-only mod, not from a recording of a Realm session. Mojang can change Realms rules; read the current terms before you rely on any mod there.

FAQ

Can I use Litematica on a Minecraft Realm?

On your own client, yes: the mod draws a hologram on your screen and the Realm only ever sees ordinary block placements. It cannot make the Realm load a schematic, and no one else sees the hologram.

Does WorldEdit or //paste work on a Realm?

No. A Realm is hosted by Mojang and you cannot put a plugin or a server mod on it, so there is no //schem load. A .schem file is for a world where you run WorldEdit yourself. WorldEdit page.

Can the other players on the Realm see my Litematica hologram?

No. It exists only in your game. Share the material list or agree on a footprint in chat, or have each person load the same .litematic in their own client.

Do I need to match the Realm's version?

Yes. The client you join with has to be the Realm's version, and Litematica has to be built for that version. The files on this site store Minecraft data version 4189 (Java 1.21.4). If your Realm is on another release, use a Litematica build and a schematic for that release.
